James Jordan has joined the cast of They Follow, NEON’s sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s 2015 horror film It Follows.
Deadline reported the casting on September 28, 2026. Jordan is best known recently for Landman, along with roles across several Taylor Sheridan projects.
His character in They Follow has not been revealed.
That is important, because very little of the sequel’s plot has been made public.
What is confirmed about They Follow
NEON continues to list They Follow among its upcoming titles.
David Robert Mitchell returns as writer and director, and Maika Monroe is returning as Jay.
Dread Central reported on September 21 that principal photography had wrapped. The sequel is described as taking place roughly a decade after the original film.
The announced cast also includes performers such as Naomi Ackie, Jackie Earle Haley, Justine Lupe and Michael Gandolfini, alongside additional supporting cast members.

James Jordan is the latest name added to that public cast list.
What is not confirmed
The September 28 casting report does not reveal:
- Jordan’s character;
- whether his role is connected directly to the entity;
- a detailed plot synopsis;
- a theatrical release date;
- a trailer date.
Morbid Index is not treating fan theories or plot speculation as production information.
Why They Follow matters
It Follows built its horror around a simple rule: a supernatural entity pursues a victim and can be passed to another person through sex.
The film deliberately left major questions unresolved.
A sequel set years later creates an obvious lore question — what happens to a curse that can move from person to person over time? — but the production has not yet answered it publicly.
That makes the current story straightforward casting news rather than an opportunity to invent a mythology breakdown before the film provides evidence.
Current status
As of September 28, 2026:
- They Follow is an upcoming NEON title;
- David Robert Mitchell returns to write and direct;
- Maika Monroe returns as Jay;
- filming has wrapped;
- James Jordan has joined the cast;
- Jordan’s role remains undisclosed;
- no release date has been announced.
When NEON releases an official trailer or full synopsis, that will justify a separate trailer post or a deeper lore/update article. For now, the confirmed news is the cast addition.
